US embraces role of mediator in new UN treatv talks

In the upcoming negotiations for a United Nations climate change agreement for the post-2020 era, the US administration sees its role as that of mediator between the powers pushing hardest for an ambitious text, the EU and less ambitious countries. That, at least, was the message conveyed by the US Deputy Special Envoy on Climate Change, Jonathan Pershing, giving a readout of the relatively successful December 2011 UN conference at Durban, South Africa.
