Wlth an average of 140 g CO_2/km, new cars sold in the EU in 2010 emit around 4% less CO_2 than those sold the previous year. This figure, released at the end of June by the European Environment Agency (EEA), was confirmed, on 20 December, by the European Commission after being checked by automotive manufacturers. «This confirms that car manufacturers are on track to reach the target of 130 g CO_2/km to be fully achieved in 2015,» observes the Commission, ie the target set in EU legislation (Regulation 443/2009).
