'Alcohol strategy' delayed until next Parliament

The current European Parliament will not take a position on an EU-wide plan to fight alcohol abuse. Due to the large number of legislative matters on the agenda for the EP's April plenary session, the Conference of Presidents has decided not to hold a vote on a non-binding resolution by Romana Jordan (EPP, Slovenia), Rebecca Taylor (ALDE, UK) and Marina Yannakouda-kis (ECR, UK). Nevertheless, the work of the Committee on National Alcohol Policy and Action (CNAPA) will continue uninterrupted, with the adoption in June (during the plenary session) of a specific action plan for the period 2014-2016, which will focus on young people and binge drinking.
