Contrarian information systems studies

Over the last few decades, the field of Information Systems (IS) has progressed significantly in terms of theories, methods and insights. With this progress there is also an emergence of convergent thinking in terms of mainstream IS topics and methods. Such convergent thinking can lead to orthodoxy, making it increasingly harder to publish studies that challenge or contradict theories and practices that are well-entrenched and founded on widely accepted original research studies. The presence of orthodoxy can bias peer reviews (known as confirmation bias) for mainstream IS journals as reviewers become more comfortable with papers that fit the orthodox research tradition rather than challenging it (Miller, 2006).
