The BBC, CNN and Al-Jazeera are arguably the three most significant media companies in reporting and representing the Middle East. It is therefore sensible to bring them together within one study. Leon Barkho is particularly concerned with how they mediate and give space to voices involved in the conflict in Iraq and in the struggle between the Palestinians and Israelis. Although he adopts the now familiar approach of critical discourse analysis, he does not confine himself to analysis of text, language and discursive structures.
