This book is written by a professional lawyer based in the United States who counsels commercial clients on intellectual property (IP) issues and business strategies. It aims to provide a compendium of practical advice together with a cultural and social context for navigating the legal challenges that China's IP regime can present to the unwary executive, and in so doing, it tries to put forward a "practical and commonsense IP perspective" (p.ⅹⅲ) in an approachable writing style. This is a timely book as the development of China's IP regime is of significant salience to both American and European business executives and political elites, and the chapters include some genuinely useful nuggets of best practice advice. However, the analysis is at times rather one-dimensional about ongoing problems and their possible solutions, with the work probably being particularly suited to a reader new to the study of IP in China.
