Who Owns What's Inside Your Head? Thoughts, Mind Data, Ownership and Future Battles Ahead

There are various examples where advances in technology are being purported to be able to access and record our thoughts and data of the mind. While there are a number of developing areas of research in this regard, and various potential applications, we now have to consider the fundamental issues which such access and use begin to raise. Issues arise from a number of perspectives, not least of which are nature of, law, ownership, commercialisation, data regulation, data protection, privacy, personal data, hierarchies of personal data, ethics, medical research, academic research guidelines, rules of driving and automobiles, rules for drones and flying devices, and more. From an intellectual property perspective, how they may protect individuals and how these might apply to the new commercial concepts of mind data, neurodata and technological efforts at mind reading, thought reading, and reading of signals of the brain also need to be considered. Ownership, control, uses and privacy will be central to future discussions.
