Temperature Drop in District Heating Pipelines by the Example of SIS 500/70/700

Rockwool insulation plus permanent vacuum, directly applied between the inner pipe, carrying the medium, and the larger surrounding encasing steel pipe, are a cost-efficient thermal insulation for district heating transport lines. How good is such an insulation, how well does it work? This question has been investigated by FW-Fernwaerme-Technik GmbH, Celle/Germany. With the support of Nuon Power Generation BV Competence Center & Engineering, Utrecht/Netherlands, FW-Fernwarme-Technik had access to the measured values, from which actual temperature losses could be determined.
