Seasonal Thermal Storage in Buildings

The proportion of renewable energy used to supply buildings with heat must increase greatly in the coming years, in order to meet the climate goals of the Paris World Climate Agreement. In this context, and as part of a study, the authors discuss the autonomous heat supply options for a building complex using solar thermal energy and a seasonal storage system. In the first part of the article the building as well as the heat requirements and the heating load are described. Furthermore the authors analyse the energy yields and the heat storage system and describe the storage system and the storage strategy.
