Large scale heat pumps in district heating networks can achieve up to 15% of heat production costs reduction when optimizing their scheduling based on the electricity market prices and taking advantage of the thermal inertia of buildings. The present simulation study found that heat pumps are more responsive in lowering heating production costs as compared to state of the art technologies when considering future scenarios up to 2030.
