Welding of final cemented casings and production strings in boreholes of un- derground storage facilities is part of the ex- pertise of UGS GmbH Mittenwalde and has been practiced successfully for more than two decades. In spite of advantages such as reliability and long-term tightness and ro- bustness against alternating stress and fa- vourable clearance conditions this techni- que of connecting casings and tubings has si- gnificant disadvantages: Specifically perfor- ming the joint welding by hand is quite time-consuming and not all steel qualities can be used.
