摘要

The temperature profile along the Middle European Crude Oil Pipeline (MERO) was measured by means of a fibre optic cable normally used for data communication. Regions with significant local soil conditions were identified from the measurements carried out over a distance of 14km during a warm and a cold period. In addition, a three-dimensional model was developed to describe the heat transfer between the pipe and the fibre optic cable. The results of the computational simulations are in a good accordance to the measurements.
