Naturally Resourceful

The American Chemical Society's Spring 2011 National Meeting addresses the Chemistry of Natural Resources. Modern chemistry was founded on elucidating properties of nature so as to develop new processes and materials for societal betterment. Chemists and chemical engineers through the 19th and 20th centuries innovated savvy methods to optimize material fluxes to glean maximal efficiency and render new sources of energy, from electricity to petroleum fuels and beyond. Pharmaceuticals, polymers, semiconductors, and so many other realms exploded in ability thanks to chemists' dogged research.
