Protect Lake Victoria through Green Economy, Public Participation and Good Governance

With a surface area of approximately 68 600 km~2 and an average depth of 40 m, Lake Victoria is Africa's largest lake and the second-largest freshwater lake in the world.1 Unfortunately, the water quality in Lake Victoria has been seriously degraded over the past few decades. The main sources of pollution include discharge of domestic wastewater, industrial waste, as well as agricultural runoff. Poor governance and low levels of public awareness are accelerating the pollution.
