Change happens, often resulting in positive or negative trajectories. When changes interface with environmental science and technology, we routinely define the scope of these alterations, design and develop innovations, and improve interventions and systems. Over the past year, we experienced many changes within our professional community, from delayed experiments and travel disruptions to restructuring collaborations. Subsequent opportunities emerged to be creative, to reimagine processes, and to engage diverse research topics, as a grand global experiment of sorts unfolded. 2020 also reminded us of the importance of our connections. News media highlighted global supply chains of personal protective equipment; Zoom, Teams, Skype, and other platforms indispensably facilitated our efforts within and among countries. Our global collaborations will remain indispensable, as we collectively advance toward more sustainable protection of public health and the environment around the world. Change is necessary.
