Case Study from West Bengal, India: Management of Noise Levels During Festival Time in Kolkata and Howrah Municipal Corporation Areas from 2002 to 2011

Celebrations during some festivals in India have traditionally involved the generation of high levels of noise, which studies show can be detrimental to human health. Although rules regarding allowable noise levels are in place, excessive ambient noise from festivals continues. This article explores efforts taken to control festival noise and presents recommendations to address this issue, including additional regulation, education, and the establishment of zones where noisy celebrations can take place.
