Chemical Characterization and Variations of Particulate Matter in a Coastal Residential Area Proximate to a Beach Sand Mine in the Ganjam District of Odisha, India

This article provides the results of an in-depth investigation into ambient air pollutants in a residential area proximate to a coastal beach sand mining operation. Data regarding chemical characterization and variations in particulate matter, which were collected over a three-year time frame, are interpreted considering the influence of meteorological conditions. Spatial, vertical, and seasonal variations in levels of suspended particulate matter (SPM), particulate matter having diameters of 10 micrometers or less (PM_(10)), and associated metals were estimated. Furthermore, this article provides an in-depth chemical investigation of trace and heavy metals along with important considerations regarding the effects and the influence of new policies, regulations, and/or technological innovations on SPM and PM_(10). The results are also compared with the data of other regions.
