Assessment of Presence of Heavy Metals and Other Pollution Burden Parameters and Their Effect on Water Quality in Benin City, Edo State

摘要

In the absence of long-standing, well-enforced regulations regarding the placement of water supply wells and waste disposal, drinking water is at risk from various types of pollution in Nigeria and other areas within the developing world. In this study, water samples were collected from four sites located in proximity to each other: a river, a business, an area used to dispose of abattoir wastes, and a private water well. Samples were also collected from a public water supply well located some distance away. Of great interest is the completion of the pollution cycle documented among the sampling sites and a comparison of the various water samples' quality to World Health Organization parameters.
