State and nature are key to understanding the political world.But what is the relationship between these highly contested concepts? If nature involves non-territorial ecological processes,trans-boundary biological communities and global environmental change,while the state is a territorially defined entity,is it possible to make a connection between states and the natural world? Arguing that states have contributed to the construction of nature as much as capitalism or religion,The nature of the state attempts to make sense of the apparent paradox of state-nature interaction.
