Geographer José Luis Moreno has written a masterpiece work on the history of the Costa de Hermosillo Aquifer in western Sonora, Mexico. It is a much-needed addition to the works on water history in the greater North American West, as well as to the literature on water in Mexico and Latin America. As an in-depth examination of an aquifer, it is up there with John Opie's Ogallala: Water for a Dry Land (Nebraska, 1993) about the massive aquifer below the central Great Plains.
