摘要

Shortly after Mark Carey won the Leopold-Hidy Award for the best essay published in Environmental HiAtory in 2007 ("The History of Ice: How Glaciers Became an Endangered Species," vol. 12, no. 3, July 2007), I asked him whether he would be willing to write a historiographical overview of his area of expertise, Latin America. That request has now borne fruit in this issue's lead essay, "Latin American Environmental History: Current Trends, Interdisciplinary Insights, and Future Directions."
