Narnia and the Fields of Arbol: The Environmental Vision of C. S. Lewis

Matthew Dickerson and David O'Hara have three main agendas with their book Narnia and the Fields of Arbol. First, they hope to describe author C. S. Lewis's "environmental vision" as articulated in the Chronicles of Narnia and Space Trilogy (p. 7). Second, they promote Lewis's ideology as a "profound, practical, and powerfully healthy ecology" that stands as a solution to modern environmental woes (p. 17). Finally, and linked to the first two goals, the authors seek to demonstrate how Lewis's positive environmental views fed from his Christian theology, thereby debunking the ideas of Christianity and nature espoused by Lynn White, Jr., in his famous 1967 essay.
