As the title states it, this book is about the environment. The authors have made a review of the main concepts related to this issue, and they analyze the more important problems and their solutions. This book has 26 chapters, divided into three sections. The first pages of Section A, "Ecosystem structure and function" show how environmental conscience is not a new thing. In the late 1960s, people started to become more aware of environmental problems. The authors explain the main components of the environment composed of the biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and soil. There is also information included about biogeochemical cycles because they are important to understand the mechanisms linking the different ecosystems. Ecological studies form another topic in this part of the book. The authors complete this section by explaining the more important biotopes in the world, the biomes.
