When Heinz Gerst was appointed at managing director as Schenck in Britain in January 1999, he was following some rather large footprints left by John Norman who had been at the helm of the company for 15 years. From small beginnings in its first year of trading in the country in 1972, he had developed the business into a £30 million turnover. It is directly associated with Schenck Pegasus, the testing and automation systems division of Carl Schenck AG and is a fully integrated engineering and development partner in that division with responsibility for the fields of engine test systems for the fuels and lubricants industry and for end of line production testing on a global basis.
