Czech Republic adopts NAP allowing emissions rise

Emissions of carbon dioxide in the Czech Republic could be higher under the National Allocation Plan for the EU emissions trading scheme just proposed by the Czech government and waiting parliamentary and European Commission approval. Some 350 companies that operate 450 large installations, such as energy facilities, chemical factories and metal processing plants, are included in the Czech scheme. Currently they produce 89 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. Under the new plan, they would be allowed to release 107.66 million tonnes of the greenhouse gas, annually over the years 2005 - 2007.
