Industries producing chemicals made from 'materials of natural origin' should be excused from the EU's draft chemicals policy and the specific needs of importers catered to - or imports will be halved, a European Parliament meeting heard this month. Willem van Loo from the European Cement Association' told the Parliament hearing makers of concrete, cement, paper, ceramics, glass, lime, iron and steel, gypsum, metals, mining and industrial minerals were concerned that they should have to meet additional safety requirements whereas their sectors were already reined in by several stringent EU laws.
