Dimas clarifies the temperature of EU climate policy

Speaking in Brussels a few days before the latest round of international climate talks opened in Montreal, Environment Commission Stavros Dimas warned that the international community must seize the opportunity to launch negotiations on global action for limiting climate change after 2012 involving full and constructive participation of all parties to the climate convention. Talking to a conference organized by European Voice, Dimas also signaled support for Canada's efforts to secure agreement in Montreal on a 5-year work programme for adaptation. He also suggested reform of the working arrangements used by the Clean Development Mechanism's Executive Board would be high on the EU's own agenda in Montreal and warned that Europe would remain vigilant to prevent any moves to re-open discussions (about compliance mechanisms) already closed at Marrakech.
