MEPs call for tougher environmental health and safety policy

An own initiative report trom Environment Committee proposing the European Commission implement a true and much more ambitious programme than its own proposed European Environment and Health Action Plan 2004-10 was adopted by an overwhelming majority of the European Parliament in full plenary on 23 February. Despite clamour from the chemicals sector that the framework proposed by Belgian Liberal Frederique Reis in her recent report would discriminate unfairly and unscientifically against some chemicals, Parliament adopted a resolution calling on the Commission to cough up a revised and concrete plan of preventative action.
