Door open to coal as future fuel

There is a place for coal in the future European energy mix, providing the industry can reduce its environmental impacts. That was the message of EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs, addressing a conference this month in the Polish coal area of Gliwice. Mr Piebalgs said that he would be proposing a communication on clean coal that would support investment in the development of zero-emission coal-fired power stations and ones with greater efficiency.
