Dimas: Politicians must note biodiversity

Loss of biodiversity could be even more of a threat than climate change and must be placed at the top of the EU's political agenda, according to Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas in his opening speech for this year's Green Week. Mr Dimas outlined why he had chosen biodiversity as the focus of this year's event. "While climate change takes up much of the media attention, in one fundamental way biodiversity loss is an even more serious threat. This is because the degradation of ecosystems often reaches a point of no return - and extinction is forever."
