Commission defends GMO policy

The European Commission has denied this week that it is following "double standards" with its policy on genetically modified organisms (GMOs), despite accusations from Friends of the Earth (FoE) and Greenpeace that Brussels has private doubts over the safety of these crops. The green lobby groups said that papers given to them by the Commission proved that the EU executive had "serious doubts over the health and environmental impacts" of GMOs.
