Government incentives could prove crucial in pushing industry to shift to low carbon technologies such as renewable energy, the conference on Towards a Global Low Carbon Economy heard this week. Finnish industry minister Mauri Pekkarinen made clear that the EU's goal of producing 20 per cent of its energy from renewables by 2020 "is not possible without subsidies."
