Call to change WEEE category reporting in the UK

The EU waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) directive contains too many categories and should be simplified. That was one messagernof UK compliance scheme Valpak's Stephanie Haines at the 3rd annual Agra Informa WEEE conference.rnMs Haines told the 18 September Brussels meeting that in the UK TVs, fridges and large household appliances frequently all came back together: "Do we need all these categories?" According to her one solution would be to realign the 13 product categories to the five practical collection streams in the UK: large household (cooling); cooling appliances containing refrigerants; screens and monitors; fluorescent lighting; and all other WEEE.
