Energy week

Energy issues look set to dominate Germany's six-month run at the helm of the EU. The country has for many years adopted pro-renewable energy policies, and this week hosts a series of events focusing on cleaner energy, with the aim of introducing new initiatives. The highlight of energy week is the 29-31 January conference on European renewable energy policy - security of supply, environmental protection and competitiveness - with a grand opening expected by former US vice president Al Gore at Brussels' flagship exhibition space, the art deco masterpiece now called the "Flagey" building.
