Council set to agree more flexible renewables directive

Member states look certain to agree more flexible rules developed by Germany, Poland and the UK on renewable energy, following a meeting of national experts last week on the Directive in Brussels. The Council working group, with broad majority, supported the new proposal on the so called "flexibility regime" for the new renewable energy sources Directive. The European Commission's trading scheme for renewable energy certificates was tabled in January, in the climate/energy package. It would create a scheme for trading renewable guarantees of origin (GOs) while allowing member states to opt out if they keep on track to meet their renewables production targets.
