German Socialist MEP Matthias Groote is pushing for tougher polluting emission limits for lorries and buses than those mapped out in a 21 December proposal, he told MEPs this week. The proposal aims to help member states comply with air pollution limits in the Clean Air for Europe (CAFE) directive by tackling polluting emissions at source. The proposal would lay down Euro VI emission standards for lorries and buses, notably reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) output by 80 per cent and particulates (PM) by 66 per cent compared to the limits of Euro V, which are set to enter into force in October.
