Dimas to reveal plans for next year

Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas will reveal his plans for 2009 to MEPs in Strasbourg on Monday night. Mr Dimas will give his annual policy strategy statement to a 19 May meeting of the European Parliament Environment Committee on the sidelines of the Strasbourg plenary session. In the plenary itself Karl Heinz Florenz will present the interim report of the Temporary Committee on Climate Change on the Scientific facts of climate change: findings and recommendations for decision-making. MEPs will also consider reports from Greek left winger Dimitrios Papadimoulis on metallic mercury and Hans Blokland (Netherlands, Independence & Democracy) on better ship dismantling (see stories in this issue). Another key issue up for debate next week is a report from the Legal Affairs Committee on the protection of the environment through criminal law.
