Commission: No definition for plastic recyclates in REACH

The European Commission does not propose to provide any specific definition for plastics recyclates as part of the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) legislation, according to Commission Vice-President Giinter Verheugen. Mr Verheugen told the March plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg that the question on if plastics recyclates are substances, preparations or articles needs to be assessed on the basis of definitions of these items in Articles 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 of the REACH regulation.
