WFD should reflect changing times, says Commission

The revision of the waste framework directive (WFD) should reflect the new attitude to waste, the European Commission's Klaus Kogler said this week. He told the 2 April European Parliament Environment Committee that he did not have the time (it was the end of the meeting) to enter into the detail of the debate on rapporteur UK MEP Caroline Jackson's second reading report and amendments before the vote next week. However he noted the three main challenges of the Directive's revision: clarification of legislation - e.g. clearer definitions with less recourse to the EU courts, simplification and modernisation - i.e. with the idea that waste is now not unwanted but is an often highly valued resource.
