Green organisations want 30 per cent emissions reductions

The European Commission's 20 per cent emission cutting target is not enough. That was the message of green groups this week, reacting to the Commission's energy and climate change package launched on Wednesday. They welcomed the proposal, but said that the Commission's failure to achieve a 30 per cent reduction was a "fundamental drawback". Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE) warned that cutting the EU's greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent "would not be sufficient to avert dangerous climate change" and called on the Parliament and Council to "dramatically strengthen the target" to "at least 30 per cent".
