Barroso: Carbon tax still possible

Putting an EU-wide tax on carbon dioxide emissions is a possibility, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso told the European Parliament this week. His statement follows EU Tax Commissioner Laszlo Kovacs' support for a carbon tax in answer to a written Parliamentary question earlier this month (see later this article).rnAfter being asked, at a question-time session on 24 November, whether he agreed with the EU's incoming President and current Belgian Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy, who is on record for proposing green EU taxes, Barroso told MEPs in Strasbourg that he would look at raising direct EU taxation.
