Green groups urge biofuel target reduction after Commission's indirect land use change study

Environmental non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have slammed current EU sustainability criteria for biofuels, calling for EU renewable transport fuel targets to be cut if the Commission's imminent report on Indirect Land Use Change (ILUC) confirms major secondary impacts from crop-fuel production.rnThe new report, jointly published by BirdLife, the European Environmental Bureau, FERN, Friends of the Earth Europe, Oxfam International and Transport & Environment, states that the 10 per cent renewable fuel target and the current rules for enforcing it are "more likely to increase transport emissions than reduce them".
