Ireland has revealed plans to double the levy on plastic bags as a way of protecting the country's environment.rnAccording to the Irish Department of the Environment, in a statement last week, the idea is to ensure "sufficient deterrent" to shoppers who arrive at the checkout with no bags of their own.rnIreland was the first EU country to tax plastic bags and now the idea is to increase the levy from €0.22 to €0.44 per bag. The move comes as part of an environmental bill scheduled to be published next month.
