Industry to gauge food and packaging's eco footprint

Carbon labelling, food miles and a myriad of other differing schemes for determining and labelling a food's ecological footprint could be overtaken by a new EU method that the food and packaging industry is to draw up by the end of 2011.rnThe plan to develop a harmonised environmental assessment method for food and drink was one of three key objectives for the new European Food Sustainable Consumption and Production Round Table that kicked off on 6 May in Brussels. The other two were to find a way of communicating that information to consumers and then to promote and report on continuous environmental improvements.
