New York county enacts BPA ban on baby bottles

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy signed legislation on 2 April that bans the sale of bisphenol A in baby bottles and sippy cups, making the county, located in Long Island, N.Y., the first jurisdiction in the nation to enact such a measure. The law will take effect within 90 days of its filing with the New York Secretary of State.rnAlthough San Francisco's Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance in 2006 prohibiting BPA and certain phthalates in toys and products intended for children under three, the ordinance never took effect and was modified to repeal the ban on BPA in 2007.
