The heads of the EU's 28 agencies met European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso on 17 February to discuss ways to strengthen co-operation as well as the EU's future approach to the governance of the agencies.rnThe 28 agencies, including the European Environment and Chemicals Agencies, werernestablished to help implement EU policies more efficiently and to respond to particular needs identified by the European institutions. MEPs and representatives of the Spanish Presidency also participated in the Brussels meeting, recognising the role that the European Parliament and Council play in shaping the renewed institutional framework.
