MEP wants chemical plant details on the internet

Hungarian Christian Democrat MEP Janos Ader is calling for information about dangerous substances produced in industrial plants to be put on the internet in simple terms, so that the public can understand what is being produced and any risks. Ader makes the call in a report he has drawn up for the European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee on the proposal to revamp the Seveso directive on major industrial accidents. The legislation aims to prevent and control major accidents in chemical plants and followed a series of incidents at installations worldwide, including Seveso in Italy, Bhopal in India and Toulouse in France.
