The Czech and Slovak governments this week joined forces to call on the European Commission to consider easing up the REACH chemicals regulation in next year's review to help EU firms, particularly small businesses, compete in the current economic climate. In a joint presentation to the 5-6 December Competitiveness Council (see separate article this issue) the two argued that the REACH regulation was adopted "in a very different economic situation than the one the European Union and its member states have been facing since the beginning of the financial crisis in 2008.
