Little place for the environment in 2012 work programme

Reflecting the current EU crisis, the European Commission's work programme unveiled last week was dominated by measures to restore the economy. The environment barely got a mention, and waste will not come under the spotlight until 2014.Presenting his programme in front of MEPs in Strasbourg on 15 November, Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso described it as a "blueprint for stability and growth".
