Danish Socialist MEP Dan Jorgensen has come out against a European Commission proposal to ease EU export restrictions on dangerous chemicals under the prior informed consent (PIC) procedures that implement the Rotterdam Convention in the bloc. In a report that the European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee was discussing as EE&PL was going to press, Jorgensen argues that the EU should "limit the derogations from the PIC procedure, as it is the responsibility of the EU to ensure that the chemicals we export do not cause unnecessary harm to humans or the environment."
